Commanding Keynote Presentations for Service Leaders
Service Leaders need to hold the room when they deliver a keynote speech, capturing attention and being memorable as they share ideas that might revolutionize the way we work. What service leaders say and how they deliver are critical – confidence, credibility, presence, authority and charisma are simple techniques that can be learned.
Overview
Service leaders need to be able to stand and deliver a compelling and influential keynote presentation whether in a large public auditorium or in the intimate online world. At the vanguard of innovation and as figureheads of organizations working in a fast-changing world, they need to deliver with huge impact.
A keynote presentation sets the pace for a successful event – it should be influential and inspiring, and should use creativity and imagination more than technical detail. Audiences expect a keynote speaker who is dynamic, engaging, energetic and human.
This module turns good competent presenters into wise and emotionally-intelligent keynote speakers – confident in their craft, solid in their message and clear about their strategic intentions. A commanding keynote speaker will need to use powerful ways to hook and engage their audiences so they leave buzzing and enthused about the topic and the messages within.
Pre-work and post-work
Ahead of this module, participants should undertake some pre-course work. Most importantly, they should bring along the content of a 5-minute keynote speech – something current, relevant and personally important to them. Additionally, we’ll ask participants to respond to some questions – linking to their personal Insights profile, self-assessing their existing presentation skills, and focusing on their goal and challenges. Perhaps also, to watch some online videos of keynote speeches (good and less-good).
After this module, we ask participants to gather feedback from colleagues on their skills to help them self-assess their growth and skill-gain. We also encourage them to observe other presenters live and online and prepare for / seek out opportunities for higher challenges. There should be a check-in point with participants after 3 months, where group discussion, individual coaching and peer support are available.
